From Workum the route takes you on a beautiful cycle path along the Flakke and Aldegeaster Bracken to the old Hanseatic city of Bolsward. This city, once located on three mounds on the former Middelzee, has a beautiful center with canals and dozens of monuments. Then you cycle to IJlst, traditionally a town of woodworking and shipbuilding. A remnant of this is the De Rat sawmill, which is still in full operation. After this it is not far to Sneek. This city, which emerged from two mounds located close to each other, was surrounded by ramparts and moats in the 16th century. It became the best defended city in Friesland and grew into a market town. The showpiece of the city is the water gate from 1613.
