Passing the Naardermeer nature reserve you arrive in the fortified town of Naarden. You can reach the Vecht via a cycle path between the Ankeveensche Plassen and the Spiegelplas. Following the river, you pass beautiful forts, knights' mansions and country estates. You cycle to Utrecht via Loenen aan de Vecht, Breukelen and Maarssen. There are many forts like a collar around the city, no wonder, because Utrecht was an important link in the New Dutch Waterline.
