Cycling holiday Achterhoek June 2021

Dear Laurens and employees of Onderweegs in Italy / the Netherlands

What a great bike ride through De Achterhoek you have planned for us. We enjoyed your beautiful, safe and varied bike ride for almost 400 km. Full of large castles, beautiful landscapes, mills, charming towns, forests, sandy paths, and views.

I think we barely saw 10 traffic lights. We did not have to endure busy roads or traffic jams, but enjoyed the quiet roads. Accompanied by hundreds of exuberant singers from our natural orchestra; blackbirds, swallows, nuthatches and a very large buzzard, magpies, a green woodpecker, sparrows, the cooing of pigeons and even clapping storks. We enjoyed the spring premiere for a week, from morning to evening.

After each ride we were warmly welcomed in a surprising accommodation. There we could freshen up, drink, rest and often also have a delicious dinner. Sometimes we go to the other side of the street or a block further for a delicious meal…

As we were used to in Italy, our suitcase was always delivered here in the Achterhoek. After our experience in September 2020 of the first Dutch Onderweegs tour through Twente, we enthusiastically booked the cycling discovery tour through De Achterhoek. With the route on GPX I was able to drive the route flawlessly, while Margrieth followed the directions and found a lovely spot at appropriate times for a cup of tea, coffee and/or something tasty.
